Los Angeles Lakers Star LeBron James No Longer a Superstar, Claims Former NBA Coach
David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Even after his years coaching in the NBA, George Karl is still at it with this hot takes. His most recent one is about Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James and how he’s not considered a star these days.

James first entered the league as the Cleveland Cavaliers number one pick in the 2003 Draft. Straight out of high school, the forward joined a class that boasted the likes of Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Bosh, among others. And in his first season, the Cavs star won Rookie of the Year after putting on a marvelous campaign in Cleveland.

Since then, the King has went on to play 21 seasons in the NBA and averaged 27.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Along with Rookie of the Year, James has won four NBA championships, four Finals MVPs, four MVPs, 20 All-Star selections, and 19 All-NBA team honors, among others.

This season, his sixth playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, ended in disappointment. After leading the Purple and Gold past the Play-In Tournament, they were eliminated in the first round by Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. As a result, LA head coach Darvin Ham was let go and rumors have surfaced about James’ player option for next season. In any case, the following months are going to be interesting for both James and Los Angeles.

Former NBA Coach George Karl Says Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James Is No Longer a Superstar

Even though his career is slowly winding down, James is still playing at a high level these past few seasons. Former NBA coach George Karl, though, has a different opinion on the four-time NBA champion in a tweet he posted on X recently.

“There are less than 10 superstars in the League today. They are Joker, Luka, SGA, GA, Tatum, Joel and maybe still Steph. LeBron was and ANT will be soon. That’s it,” Karl tweeted.

Karl is no stranger to controversial takes as he recently blasted the Lakers for considering JJ Redick as a head coach and even claimed Nikola Jokic is a better player than Michael Jordan.

While Karl is certainly stirring the pot, there’s still a chance James can prove him wrong in the upcoming season. With much of the focus on where he’s going to end up next, the King may still change the former NBA coach’s mind.
